Onya Rudd, and Daily Port Douglas Blog

Written by Guy Besley, Latitude Resorts Port Douglas,

No no no, i'm not getting political! What I will be very interested to see about the current political situation in the ALP is how it unfolds over the next few days and how they use Social Media.

Without a doubt Kevin Rudds plea to the public to get on the phone to local MP's to encourage support for him will play out heavily on Social Media over the next 3 days. After all, the Social Media platform is the greatest platform for Rudd to communicate with the public.

So all eyes will be on twitter and Facebook. Oh, by the way, last nights announcement from Rudd in Washington was on Twitter comfortably before the Television.

Just another highlight of the importance and future of Social Media!

Till tomorrow,

North Queensland Wedding & Formal Expo

Written by Sarah Hugill, Killer Brides

The Pier, Cairns

The Pier & Shangri-La Events Centre were absolutely packed with brides and grooms-to-be and their dedicated support crews on Sunday for the annual North Queensland Wedding & Formal Expo. Over 100 local and intrastate wedding suppliers showcased their products and services to an estimated 3000 attendees including brides, bridesmaids, Mums and grooms (yes, there were plenty of grooms and they even looked like they were enjoying it!)

There were lots of prizes to be won, incuding $2,000 towards a Fiorenza wedding gown, won by a very lucky local girl. The expo also featured the Zinc FM Running of the Brides, where entrants raced around the Pier in wedding dresses and a luxury honeymon giveaway.

Pina Fiorenza personally attended the expo to put on two stunning fashion parades featuring the 2012 Fiorenza bridal collection. Pina is also hosting a popup boutique at the pier for the next week, for local brides to try on her latest collection of gowns. The fashion parades also featured a host of local suppliers including Bella Forma, Tokunai Hair, Romeo & Juliet Bridal & Karlie Jay, ballet dancers and a surprise, dancing male model!

http://www.fiorenza.com.au/

The 2012 North Queensland Wedding & Formal Expo was a professioally executed event which featured everything needed to plan a perfect wedding in our beautiful location. One of my favourite features was the candy buffet at the Stella Studios/Blush Floral booth. The only problem was that it was all over too quickly... but there's always next year!

Killer Brides was at the expo snapping photos of some lovely locals. Did we see you there? See our photo galleries of the event, including the fashion parades here.

Port Douglas Weather Blog and Trip Advisor

Written by Guy Besley, Latitude Resorts Port Douglas,

Well wont it shock you all to hear me of all people have a bit of a go at Trip Advisor (tongue in cheek), Well let me again highlight that I don't blame Trip Advisor its the users of the product that create bogus reports. Now that I have cleared that up.

As Trip Advisor has been given the boot by Expedia; sold to the public, followed by Expedia criticising the integrity of the product, they have started making a few changes to engage more. Trip Advisor is certainly following the lead of the big Social Media sites (although we can sort of call them a social media site, or an anti-social media site) by endevouring to create more engagement via Gamification.

Gamification has worked brilliantly for FourSquare, and they have seen this, considering they are a similar beast to FourSquare. What they have done is introduce badges, exactly the same as FourSquare, this is actually a good move for them. It will create more engagement and more posts on the site for sure. I also believe that it may even help clean it up a little as the more genuine critics will make more of an effort to be heard. This is also backed up with regular emails asking us to submit reviews.

I feel these moves to be a good step. The ONLY way Trip Advisor can become legitimate is by more reviews. Simple, more reviews dampen the effect of fake reviews. It will only really happen in bigger areas where there is the turnover.

Till Tomorrow,

If you want to keep up to date on all things Social Media keep an eye on my Blog at The Digital Media Strategist, www.thedigitalmediastrategist.com

Written by Guy Besley, Latitude Resorts Port Douglas,

Latmarkeitngfb

Good morning all, Im excited; yes I know it doesn't take much. But this is exciting, last night I found a social media site that has more engagement than Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Pinterest combined. This site is phenominal.

I put a post out there and within 5 minutes I had 103 votes and comments on my post. To top it off, that is without having any friends, I only joined last night. Absolutely amazing.

Anyway, Ill do a write up of it shortly for those that are interested it will be on my blog site The Digital Media Strategist, www.thedigitalmediastrategist.com I am very interested to see how I can use this site to build brand awareness, doesn't look like it yet, but anywhere there is distribution there is an opportunity.

Anyway, till tomorrow folks,

Help please, stop being so damn arrogant... Daily Blog

Written by Guy Besley, Latitude Resorts Port Douglas,

Good morning all, much of the same weather in the Far North today, but what I would like to do is put out a plea for help!

One thing we are seeing is a good level of support from Travel Agents for Australian tourism. They are well aware of the importance of Domestic travel and assisting our ailing Tourism sector, especially Queensland. So this is good right? Well not really, why?

The problem here is that as more and more properties go onto last minute sites and ignore the agents they are cutting off their nose to spite their face. How so? Well, the domestic Travel Agents support tourism, of course they do. HELLO! They are also Aussies, which means they help their mates! But the problem is that properties are making it harder and harder to deal with. The greed is becoming a joke and they still live in a dilusion that they will sell rooms directly and make more money (well don't start me about the money!) BUT they don't, time to wake up guys. Time and time again we see properties dropping allocations to agents (who sell rooms at rack rate) only to sell on last minute websites at up to 70% off. Just have a look at Port Douglas and Cairns on Wotif! Tell me that its good for longevity! No, of course not.

So guys, look longer term. You have no choice. Its imperative to foster relationships in business! In the digital age there is only one thing that really is relevant when it comes to sales and that's DISTRIBUTION. Simple! There is no more 80/20 blah blah blah, its now long tail, and the more relationships you have the more your brand or product is in the market place.

IT AIN'T ROCKET SCIENCE FOLKS! Its a no brainer.

till tomorrow, and in the meantime contact your AFTA travel agent.

Good Morning all, my Vlog is a little different this morning, I haven't bothered with the weather as I want to chat about Revenge!!!

Ok, lets not get to excited, its about the Television series that aired on Chanel 7 last night to a whooping audience of 2 million. Unbelievable. Lets be honest, its a boring story line and done a hundred times, yet it attracted so much interest.

Well why did it? Was it a good show (yea its ok) is it good music attached to it, is it a cool name (Revenge, hell yea, but); Coldplays Paradise (its ok) or is it how it was marketed. Well it was the later! Its all about the Marketing.

Till tomorrow

Port Douglas Blog and Lance Armstrong

Written by Guy Besley, Latitude Resorts Port Douglas,

Nightterrace-high
Coconut Grove Apartments, Port Douglas

What a comeback! Lance Armstrong is back to where he started, Triathlon. He raced in Panama over the weekend in the Panama 70.3 and came second.

I will eat my words, he is definitely worthy. To compete in triathlon after so much time on a bike and to do it in such style, the guy is amazing! Cant wait for Hawaii? Well done Lance.

On the other side of the coin, sad news about Whitney Housten eh! The life span in that business isn't really great!

Anyway, the sun is shinning in the Far North this morning, so if your about, get a car and get out and enjoy it.

Till tomorrow,

Daintree Wild Zoo, Say gudday to my mate Gill....

Morning all, this balmy summer weather is nearly wearing thin. But to be honest this weather is beautiful! Some of the tourists may disagree at times, but you rarely hear a complaint from tourists.

It reminds me of a little kids (about 6) who was staying with us at Driftwood-Mantaray Apartments about 3 years ago. It was literally the first time in his life he saw rain. Imagine that! At that age seeing rain for the first time. He was from country NSW which of course was in serious drought for many many years.

A married couple, both avid golfers, was discussing the future one night.

"Honey", the wife said, "if I were to die and you were to remarry, would you two live in this house?"

"I suppose so - it's paid for."

"How about our car? Continued the woman. "Would the two of you keep that?

"I suppose so - it's paid for."

"What about my golf clubs? Would you let her use them too?

"Heck, no," the husband blurted out. "She is left-handed."

Anyway, till tomorrow, Enjoy...
